Good old fashioned, low key fun

This was great, low key fun. 45 minutes out 45 minutes in Wheeler and 45 minutes back on a traing pulled by an vintage steam locomotive. Loading could be more efficient, I think. The ride in an old passenger car, with a diverse group of passengers was nice. The countryside was gorgeous and full of history. The narrator was interesting and had some humor without trying to be funny. The stop in Wheeler was a bit odd, because there was nothing there except antique shops. We spent our time looking for coffee, which we finally found at a smoked salmon place that had coffee that I expect was for the train passengers.

    Great scenery and historyt

We have been wanting to take this train ride for a long time and were not disappointed. We booked the enclosed car fearing we might encounter inclement weather. This car is comfortable and the views were excellent. A former teacher narrated the trip. He was pleasant and informative. The stop in Wheeler was interesting. The smoked salmon dip was outstanding. Great trip.

Nice, short ride but nothing spectacular.

The train leaves from Rockaway Beach, Oregon. There is no depot, just a small beach parking lot off Hwy 101 with benches to wait for the train. Sometimes it goes south and sometimes north depending on the time of year. Some days it runs a steam engine. The trip is about 45 minutes, then a stop of about 45 minutes in a town to get off and shop, then 45 minutes back. When leaving the “station” many local residents were out in their yards to wave at the train. They have 4 different cars; open air, open air but covered, coach with 2 facing seats with 10” of leg room for 4 people—hope you’re tiny and sitting with friends; parlor car had 4 tables with 2 chairs on the non-water side of the train, all other tables had 4 chairs. The price for all the cars was the same but you have to reserve a specific one and can’t change later. You get the best views if you sit on the waterside of the train (left if you’re going north, right if you’re going south) The staff was nice and efficient.

    Riding The Rails In Garibaldi!

This is a one hour round trip steam locomotive ride along the Oregon Coast from Garibaldi to Rockaway Beach, Oregon. The engine is powered by used motor oil rather than coal. You can choose between open or enclosed railway cars. You might consider the enclosed car so that you don't experience the black smoke from the locomotive. The passenger cars have been nicely restored and the narration during the trip is good. There is a half hour shopping break at the turnaround.
