Mt. Bachelor Ski Area

Only 20 minutes from Bend and Sunriver, Mt. Bachelor, a 9,065-foot volcanic cone, offers world-class skiing and snowboarding from November well into the spring. In the summers, the resort offers summer bike parks and, new for 2020, a zipline adventure.

Famous for its deep powder and surfy terrain, the mountain annually plays host to Olympic hopefuls and international competitions. Not only is Mt. Bachelor a great place for expert skiers and riders to get that burn, it is also a fantastic place to learn a snow sport or take the family for an exciting day out.

Mt. Bachelor recently expanded the learning terrain in the Sunrise Lodge base area with the addition of one new chairlift in addition to the existing Carrousel chair, plus two covered conveyor carpets. The resort is offering free and easy rides up the new 70-foot covered carpet conveyor lift open seven days a week. In addition the resort introduced the Woodward Terrain park, a network of featured terrain park zones all around the mountain.

With 4,300 acres of terrain served by a network of eleven lifts, eight of which are high-speed quads (including the recently-added Cloudchaser lift), there’s room for every interest and ability. In addition to the world-renowned downhill skiing and snowboarding; snowshoeing tours, sled dog rides and Nordic skiing are all offered on site.

In the summertime, the resort offers lift served access to more than a dozen miles of downhill oriented bike trails and, new for 2020, the Northwest’s steepest, fastest, and highest-elevation zipline adventure. Also on tap are scenic chairlift rides, sunset dinner, disc golf and more.

    Very nicely managed

Check in and lift ticket buying supplies and rentals is very easy and friendly service. There is a wonderful app that you can use and can even track your friends and get statistics if you would like on your skiing.

    Great ski resort

Mount Bachelor is an amazing spot with big mountain feel but without feeling overwhelming. The snow conditions were amazing, and overall crowd management is pretty good for the amount of people on the mountain.

Unlucky Snow, Very Good Mountain Nonetheless

The Good: Huge mountain with a lot of potential ski area. Glades are great with space between trees. Long runs. The resort cafeterias were decent. For us there were no lines for the lifts or the cafeteria but that may have been because of the weather. The Bad (or perhaps just not as good): We had early snow conditions. Not much snow and a fair amount of ice. Less than half the mountain was open. With the exception of Cloudchaser conditions were very icy – especially the groomers by the main lodge. Would be great if there was a village like other ski resorts in the Rockies. The Ugly: Not much comes to mind. Could see parking and lines being a problem on powder, blue bird days.

    Beautiful south central Oregon!

Central Oregon was a wonderful place to visit. I know most people stay on the coast or up towards Portland to Mt. Hood or the myriad waterfalls in that area. But the Cascade range, which ranges all the way from Washington to California, is so interesting and beautiful. We saw many volcanic areas including the beautiful Crater Lake, the three Sisters around Bend, and many others. We saw miles and miles of lava flows, rushing rivers and wonderful forests. We also saw waterfalls and high desert areas. I highly recommend this section of the state for a road trip!
