I've been here 3x. It's a beautiful place to see and hike. It's not that hard of a hike if you do the trail. If I have any advice its once you reach the first scenic lookout point you've seen pretty much the beautiful part and the next half can be difficult with all the roots. The end is kind of a let down but I suppose it's amazing for whale watching! Definitely worth a trip and a hike!
I just got back from a trip here. I stayed in the Tillamook cabin. This cabin has by far the best view of the beach from its front porch. Clean, well taken care of. The days were clear, all the way to the horizon and the surf was huge all 3 days. Had a wonderful time, will be going back.
Very poor reservation setup
I camp very often and the Cape lookout reserve system is very poor. They just put a reserved sign no name or dates on it. We came in at 9pm and our spot was taken because it is not obvious. They wake you up in the morning to see if it's you. Then if you are staying more than one night they don't leave the sign up for you. I have a cvt so there is nothing for me to leave behind. I love coming here but I feel they could do a little better keeping guests spot kept without leaving valuables.
beautiful state park
We came in October, and it was wonderful. It even rained a ton the night we stayed. It was so very beautiful though. Wow! We were travelling through as we were on a 2 week road trip. So we were only in and out for the night. The proximity to the beach was lovely. The sites are very private. The showers are hot and free!
Cape Lookout State Park
Cape Lookout was one of the highlights of our trip to the Oregon coast. The 4.8 mile round trip trek to the lookout offers outstanding views, you can access a beautiful rocky beach from the state park entrance 3 miles before you reach the trailhead. Between the two is a turnout with views of the ocean on the left, and Netarys bay on your right. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch a hang glider taking off as well.
