Soter Vineyards

Native Oregonians Tony and Michelle Soter established Soter Vineyards in 1997 following Tony’s distinguished career as consulting winemaker, organic farmer, and founder of Etude in Napa, CA. Soter Vineyards makes its home at Mineral Springs Ranch, a biodynamic farm and vineyard located in the heart of Oregon wine country. Today, Tony carries on Michelles legacy in an uncompromised commitment to their ideals in farming, winemaking, and environmentalism.

Wine and Cheese with Flies

I visited Soter Vineyards years ago and wrote a stellar review. I was eager to return and filled with anticipation. My experience began on a high note and ended disappointingly. A friend and I were warmly greeted and offered a glass of wine during check in. We were seated at an inside table with two other women. The four of us had ordered our own charcuterie plate. We sampled the soft cheese. It was delicious. Soon afterwards the flies arrived. The large flies ruined our experience. At least ten flies landed on our cheeses, fruit, crackers, wine glasses and plates. They never went away. All four of us were constantly shooing the flies away between sips of wine. Our friendly server was present during this time and did not apologize or take any steps to address the problem. In fact, when we were leaving, he asked us if we wanted to take the remaining charcuterie with us. We declined and then looked at each other in disbelief. Who would want to take food that had so many flies on it? If Soter cannot rid itself of the flies, at least show consideration for your guests and provide a screened cover for the cheese board. To expect guests to continually swipe flies away during a wine tasting we pay to experience is simply unacceptable. Before making indoor reservations, I suggest asking first if Soter has mitigated their fly problem. Top marks for the wines and setting.

Vineyard with an Amazing View

We stopped at Soter Vineyard on our way to a wedding in Willemite Valley. We were visiting from Michigan and usually just stop in to wineries and vineyards. We were unable to do a tasting as we needed a reservation. The staff was very friendly and gave us a voucher to come back for a free tasting. They did also give us a small tasting before leaving. The wine was good and the views were amazing. We will definitely have to come back when we are in Oregon again and get the full experience.

Food. Wine. Amazing!

Wow! We had quite a few great experiences in Willamette Valley but the MSA Provisions tasting at Soter was one of our favorites and something we will definitely do again Food and wine were amazing together. 5 courses, 5 wines, and impeccable service all made for a great trip. It's hard to get a reservation (especially during covid) so call at least 2 to 3 months in advance. The $125 per person price tag is fair for a world class meal and amazing wines. Highly recommend!

Wonderful!

My husband and I had a lovely wine tasting here! Our guide greeted us with rose when we excited the car, and brought us to a small private house for a wine tasting. Afterwards he took some pictures for us, poured us a taste of a 1999 Pinot, and then suggested we walk the property while he got our purchase ready for us. The property was beautiful and we enjoyed seeing the cows. You won’t be disappointed with this experience!

Excellent wine tasting

If you’re in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA and want to taste some excellent wines in a beautiful environment, I heartily suggest that you make an appointment at Soter. We’ve been there for tastings twice and the experience was incredible each time. We enjoyed personal service from a wine expert who answered all of our questions. The wines are among the best we’ve tasted and, if you make make minimum purchases (which you’re almost sure to do), they waive the tasting fees.
