Take your taste buds on a trip around the globe in Oregon’s Tualatin Valley where a world of food is waiting for you to explore. Here are a few suggestions for international cuisine just outside of downtown Portland.

Japanese: Family-owned Syun Izakaya in Hillsboro offers a casual, pub-style atmosphere and a variety of hot and cold dishes, including sushi, sashimi and salads. The restaurant has won past notice of The Oregonian, Willamette Week and Zagat, and has a large selection of sake to choose from.

Korean: Beaverton’s Nak Won Korean Restaurant serves up savory dishes like kimchi, dumplings (mandoo) and crispy salted mackerel. The Oregonian recently called this place “the godfather restaurant of Beaverton’s unofficial Little Korea.”

Mexican: Sanchez Taquería y Panadería has been a Tigard institution for 16+ years serving authentic, rustic Mexican dishes created from fresh ingredients. Try tacos, enchiladas, moles and specialities like huaraches and super burritos.

Indian: Chennai Masala in Hillsboro serves home-style South Indian cuisine that just might become your new favorite comfort food. Choose from the likes of chicken tikka masala, lamb korma or shrimp vindaloo as well as vegetarian options, a kids’ menu and delightful desserts.

Salvadoran: Gloria’s Secret Café in Beaverton has won a loyal following for a spicy Salvadoran menu. The selection of freshly prepared moles, pupusas, paellas and enchiladas, all deeply flavored with a variety of Latin American chiles, will win your heart and wallet.
