Last month, on a sunny Saturday, my husband and I hopped in the car for a trip to eat our way through charming Albany on the Albany Nosh Tour. The Albany Nosh Tour takes participants on a tour of Albany’s finest eateries on a charming old-time trolley and is the perfect way to explore Albany and sample some great bites.
Our tour stopped at Sybaris, Vault 244, Pizza King, Brewster’s, Novak’s Hungarian Restaurant, Wilhelm’s and Calapooia Brewing Co. with a surprise last stop at the Brass Ring Carousel Project. Each restaurant provided one or two bites from their menu along with a drink as well as a brief history of the restaurant.
My favorite bite was the Mediterranean Lamb Kebab from Vault 244 (pictured above). I thought about the tzatzikifrom that kebab for several days after the event – it was light, fresh and not too cucumber-y. The kebab was served with a rose sangria (which I didn’t partake in as I’m expecting a baby) which appeared to be the perfect summer cocktail. Also, high on my list was the mushroom swiss burger and root beer from Calapooia (non pregnant people got to enjoy a couple different craft brews).
Our final stop at the Brass Ring Carousel Project was a real treat. The studio is committed to build a traditional Victorian Carousel in downtown Albany. Animals in all different stages of completion are on display and are quite gorgeous and ornate.
