Ranky Tanky at the Hult Center

Ranky Tanky is a Charleston, South Carolina-based quintet that performs the timeless music of Gullah culture. Gullah, meaning “a people blessed by God” in a West African region, is a musical tradition of the southeastern Sea Island region of the United States. Contemporary artists like Ranky Tanky are rooted in the fertile ground of Charleston music, from which grows playful songs, ecstatic shouts, heartbreaking spirituals and delicate lullabies. Come to the Hult Center to listen as the Gullah culture is brought to life by Quentin Baxter, Kevin Hamilton, Charlton Singleton, Clay Ross and Quiana Parler.
