Oregon Repertory Singers Present: Finding Light

This listing is provided by Tualatin Valley

Oregon Repertory Singers concludes their 50th season with Finding Light, a new work for choir and orchestra by Filipino-American composer Matthew Lyon Hazzard. ORS commissioned Hazzard to write a complement to Lux Aeterna, commonly considered the most beautiful twentieth-century work for choir and orchestra, composed by National Medal of Arts winner and beloved Oregonian composer Morten Lauridsen. While Lauridsen’s oratorio approaches the theme of light from a religious perspective, Hazzard’s new work is the ideal companion piece to conclude the concert, with poems by young Chinese-American (and Portlandian!) poet Sophia Mautz about finding light in the darkest of times. Camerata from Portland Youth Philharmonic—celebrating their 100th Anniversary—is collaborating on this performance, along with members of ORS Youth Choir—celebrating 30 years this season. It’s a season of milestones. Join Oregon Repertory Singers for this celebration of light, life, and longevity.
