Currents Gallery Features Glorious Gourds and Powerful Paintings

Claudia Herber and Kathleen Buck will once again be combining their talents for the featured show in February at Currents Gallery.  Claudia’s gourds are carved into interesting surfaces, which she then decorates with acrylics. She creates the effect of ribbons, fabrics, leather, a filigreed surface and many other textures. Claudia will be displaying several new designs including a gorgeous lamp. Her abstract gourds are the “definition” of fine art, and display beautifully with Kathleen’s abstracted paintings. Kathleen is fascinated by hidden but recognizable figures emerging from abstract backgrounds. Her acrylic paintings use luscious color combinations and lots of texture to suggest a story and captivate the viewer.  Kathleen and Claudia are both close friends, and two of the gallery’s seven partners. Both artists are award winners in their fields. Claudia has competed and won in the annual Wertz Gourd Festival, and events of the Washington State Gourd Society.  Kathleen is a signature member of the watercolor Society of Oregon, and has won numerous awards for her paintings. Come meet the artists at the Opening Reception on Friday February 21st, during McMinnville’s 3rd on 3rd Art & Wine Walk.
