Science fiction conventions in Portland (as well as the sponsoring organization, OSFCI) got their start in 1978 with the PorSFiS Symposium, a one-day event at Portland State University. That tradition is being revived with a small SF literary event this summer, Symposium 2026, helping fill the gap left by OryCon’s demise.
This one-day event will be a reach-out to fans who have enjoyed Portland-area literary events and embrace their enthusiasm for science fiction and fantasy writing in books, films, and television. Enjoy a simple, small daytime event that allows fans to celebrate the career and achievements of Steve Perry, who currently resides in the Portland metro area. Providing a model for creating future similar events.
Children 9 and under are admitted free, but there are no children’s activities. Admission is good all day and applies whether you attend one panel or all of them.
