Beaver Creek Canyon Stairs Trail Party

This listing is provided by Explore Troutdale

Join Trailkeepers of Oregon (TKO) in building some stairs in Beaver Creek Canyon by Weedin City Park in Troutdale. No experience necessary. Upcoming dates are: June 1, June 5, June 12, June 14, June 19, June 26, June 28, and June 29. Volunteers can choose the morning option (8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.), afternoon option (1 – 4:30 p.m.), or both.

This project will involve installing several flights of timber lap-jointed box stairs on the trail leading down to Beaver Creek. The materials are being pre-cut and drilled in a shop, and then brought to the site for construction. There are a variety of tasks including carrying materials down, excavating for the new stairs (using picks and grubbers), measuring for stair placement (using tape measures, levels, and clinometers), and installing stairs (using framing squares, sledge hammers, levels and tampers). We’ll work at a gentle pace, focusing on quality, and take breaks to see if we can catch a glimpse of the beavers working on their dams or the blue heron flying up the creek.

The hike to the project site is short, but steep. There are 80+ steps down to the project site. There are no restrooms at the site.
