The Tea Party

This listing is provided by Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce

In the heart of the old Nye Beach downtown, this building has been extensively remodeled, but began life as a live theater in vaudeville days. In the late 20s, it became one of Newport’s first movie houses. The 50s brought a restaurant, but from the early 60s until 1996 it was a clothing store.

After a period of rebuilding, Tea & Tomes opened in December of 1998. The wood floors and wainscoting were recovered from the original building, as were many of the interior doors. The front door was made from old timbers from a bridge that once crossed the Great Salt Lake. The Victorian style cast iron fireplace was imported from England. In the kitchen, your food has been prepared in a four oven AGA, the most traditional of the English cast iron “cookers”.
