In 1960, Walt and Dorothy Elmer opened breakfast focused Elmer’s Colonial Pancake House in Portland. Truly a family-owned and operated labor of love, Walt, Dorothy, and their three sons poured their hearts into serving the local community. It was an immediate success.
Built on the foundation of Walt Elmer’s famous buttermilk pancakes, over the years the menu was expanded with lunch and dinner items.

The food quality has gone down and it's way to overpriced compared to other restaurants. I also have diet restrictions and they no longer have grilled chicken so we definitely won't be back. If you like overpriced frozen fried foods then you will love this place.
A dinner better than Dennys. Turkey had an odd taste. Couldn’t find more than 2 pieces of chicken in the chicken soup or two pieces of clam in clam chowder. Service is good. Left wallet on table and when I went back to get it $100 was missing. Good breakfasts.
The server was so kind and friendly. The food was so delicious. Definitely would recommend the prime rib dinner and the clam chowder. Restaurant is clean and they take care of the customers.
Elmer’s was convenient for our particular needs since it was within walking distance to our hotel. We went here for a late dinner. My husband ordered breakfast (eggs, potatoes, bacon) and I had the French dip with fries. We felt the food was definitely edible but extremely salty. The au jus sauce seemed like it needed to be diluted….it was pure sodium. There seems to be an older clientele which I would imagine would shy away from heavily salted food. Let the customer decide how much salt they want. The wait staff and cashier were great. If we’re come thru Grants Pass again I’d be willing to try Elmer’s again but ask for them to put the salt shaker down.
A visit Grants Pass just isn't complete without the German pancake. I'm sure other things are good too as I hear no complaints from the family but I will stick to what I know is good. The German Pancake. Not the fruit version, i haven't tried it. Sticking to the one version I know and love: lemon and powdered sugar.
