Multnomah Falls

Plummeting 620 feet, in two different sections, Multnomah Falls is the most-visited natural recreation site in the Pacific Northwest with more than 2 million visitors each year.

Fed by underground springs, the flow over the falls varies and is usually highest during the winter and spring months. Multnomah Falls offers one of the best places in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area to study geology exposed by floods. Six flows of Grande Ronde Basalt are visible in the fall’s cliff face, representing more than 400,000 years of geological history.

Amazingly stunning falls. Easy to get to from Portland. Touristy but not annoyingly so. Great picture spot. Drive to falls from Portland is also stunning.

    Oregon Landmark

Multnomah Falls never disappoints. My son and I stopped on our way home from a trip up the Columbia River Gorge. It was a great time to visit the falls. The parking lot fills up during the summer months, but we went on March 1 and it was pretty quiet. The falls were roaring, with several small accessory falls, thanks to plenty of rain and snow in the preceding days. Gorgeous views, beautiful nature, and not too many people. I highly recommend going in the winter months.

    Worth stopping!

Waterfalls was one thing I was excited to see in the PNW and this one didn’t disappoint. Even in the off-season, I’d recommend getting there as early as you can because parking is in short supply. We got there around 10am and parked just fine at both Wahkeena Falls and Multnomah Falls, but when we left there were a lot of cars waiting for parking spots to open up. It also is pretty chilly in February, so don’t forget a jacket and a hat. As you get close to the falls, you get a lot of the mist on your face and that gets cold if you’re not used to the weather.

    Absolutely Amazing!

If you’re a nature lover, you will truly enjoy Multnomah Falls. The waterfall is easy to get to and the parking is convenient as well. The hike up to the bridge is not bad at all. Lots of good photo ops too! There is also a restaurant which was very good and a souvenir shop. Absolutely loved this experience, Highly recommend!

    Majestic

We almost didn't go because of how touristy this place gets, and on top of that if you miss the turn to get in here, you're going to have to drive a really long ways to turn around and come back. Also, if you're a military veteran, parking is free, just FYI. The falls were grand and majestic, and we spent about 2 hours here just taking it in. There's a bathroom, gift shop and some snacks here. I know the crowd and the minusha to get here might seem like too much, but it was definitely worth it.
