Almosta Farm is a 10-acre family run farm located in Cove, Oregon in the heart of the Grand Ronde Valley. Lori Shields and Janet Marrs are native Oregonians who began Almosta Farm in Asheville, North Carolina in 2008 as a micro-urban farm with chickens, bees, vegetables and fruit. When they relocated their family to Oregon in 2017 Almosta Farm expanded to also include Nigerian Dwarf goats and first nation foods.
They breed and raise ADGA registered Nigerian Dwarf goats and in 2020 have begun participation in DHI (Dairy Herd Improvement) milk testing and Linear Appraisal through the ADGA to improve the quality of the herd and the goats that they sell. You can learn more about Almosta Farm’s herd on the farm’s website . The goats have a tremendous amount of contact with children and adults and as a result are very friendly. The farm tests their herd annually for CAE, CL, and Johnes annually.
Almosta Farm offers raw milk for sale and classes in making various types of goats milk cheese.
There’s also a small apiary from which they harvest honey, and other by products such as wax and bee’s wax products like candles. The farm is also working to improve the habitat for other pollinators such as solitary bees, butterflys, hummingbirds and bats.
The farm’s chicken flock consists of over 30 hens, both heritage and hybrid breeds. Eggs are available for purchase, and the hens are more pets than farm animals.
The farm grows and preserves as much of its food as is possible and makes surplus products available for sale to the public.
Almosta Farm is committed to educating children and the community on the importance of pollination, agriculture and sustainability in support of this the farm is open to school tours and various educational offerings.
