Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum

Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum (WAAAM) has one of the largest collections of still-flying antique aeroplanes and still-driving antique automobiles in the country. The items on display at this museum are not only full of history, they’re full of life. Aircraft, automobiles, motorcycles, tractors, military jeeps, and engines all get their day in the sun again at WAAAM.

WAAAM calls their volunteers into action the Second Saturday of every month. The action runs between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The huge hangar doors are opened and visitors are invited to ride in antique cars, watch antique planes take off and land, and enjoy living history. Each of these actions days has a bit of a different theme. It varies throughout the year. Stop by often and take the time to learn about and enjoy our wonderful transportation past.

Great place. Big disply. 3 miles or so from town on 2 lane highway.

Amazing collection. Great conservations with volunteers. As a Senior who travels by Columbia express bus and local loop bus I found you could only get within a couple of miles from here on regular 7 day service. You can call the CAT system at let a day ahead if you want to try dial-a-ride. Currently no Uber. I walked/biked there on busy 2 lane road without sidewalk. Still worth

Great museum for a rainy AND a sunny day. Do not miss this.

We visited because it rained. It is a great rainy day activity - and I would heartily say even a great sunny day activity! Large complex with lots of history. Wonderful, very helpful volunteer staff. Well worth cost of admission. Hundreds of working planes and cars. Once/ months they take several planes and cars out and you can ride with the docents for a fee - which seemed very reasonable. Do not miss this museum!

Car and plane rides on Second Saturday

We visited WAAAM on 'Second Saturday.' We thought we'd be there for an hour or two, but ended up staying most of the day. On Second Saturday, volunteers take antique cars out of the museum and visitors are invited to go for a ride. About a dozen cars were available and we rode in almost all of them. For an extra fee, you can take a flight in an antique bi-plane. We got a birds-eye view of the nearby orchards and town and then soared over the Columbia River. If you go flight-seeing, be aware that it will be loud, breezy - and totally amazing.

Hidden gem

A hidden gem in the Hood River area. Such a carefully curated collection of cars, airplanes, antiques and what not! And all of the vehicles are operational! There's also a cute little gift shop outside. Depending on your interest, you could spend from an hour to a few hours there. I don't know if they get much traffic here as it was pretty empty when we went. So, do yourselves a favor and them too and visit!

Surprises around every corner

This was such a fun visit. Around every corner there was something new, and different, and exciting. I’ve learned about so many car manufacturers that I’ve never even heard of previously. It was a great visit, with surprises like S7 Saleen being a huge bonus. Worth a visit and a drive out there for sure!
