Tine town with a huge history
I lived in Wheeler for about a year back in 2000. Very small town but with a huge history. Named after the man that built a lumber mill that helped rebuild San Francisco after the quake. Interesting little place to nose around. This Lodge has some very nice rooms, some with a large jacuzzi pool. Clean and the owners are big into hospitality/
Don't be put off by the outside
This is an old property and, at first glance, you might pass on staying there. DON'T! It's the coolest place! When you check in, you are offered breakfast in a basket (you pick three items from a list and take them to your room). They have a room of videos, games and books (but mostly videos--it's like they bought the current contents of an old Blockbuster!) right off of registration. The rooms include a microwave and small refrigerator, electric "fireplace," and all of the other amenities you would expect. My daughter and I were charmed by this place on the water. Don't miss this one!
Great impromptu vacation!
So lucky to find a room here on an unexpectedly warm & sunny Veteran's Day Weekend! Loved all the thoughtful touches: free snacks & La Croix, build-your-own breakfast basket, free use of kayaks, great game & movie selection. And excellent dinner right next door at Salmonberry Saloon! With all of that, the kids would've been happy to just stay at the lodge all weekend. But we dragged them out and enjoyed nearby Nehalem and the beach at Manzanita. For all the planners out there, here's more room info: Rooms 1-6 have small back decks with partial bay views (6 has best view); 7,8, & 9 have great views from large private bayfront decks; 10 has a small window facing the bay and 11 (where we stayed) has no view but a great family set up with 2 separate bedrooms.
Ireland fishing village feel
My son and I stayed here for a couple of nights and it brought us back to our trip to Ireland. Small town homey feel and a great place to stay. The owners were so good to us and accommodating. We were interested in fishing for crab and they did everything for us but catch the crab. They knew where and how and because of it we avoided the costs of paying someone to show us. We were very successful because of their information and we had an amazing time together. Would stay here in a heartbeat again.
My favorite place to relax
This place is the best. Martha, Gordon and Bird are great hosts. They are so laid back and friendly. The place is very clean and comfortable. They make sure you have whatever you need to have a great time! The view is outstanding.
