historic gardens in a charming small town
the Village Green staff are welcoming and accommodating. It's great to have a property worth walking around and a lounge and other public spaces that beckon. The town has murals and a historic area with good restaurants and wine tasting, and waterfall and biking trails are close by. A fine little known getaway.
Beautiful grounds even covered in snow!
Cottage Grove had just had 2 ft. of snow and the grounds were covered with snow and broken branches. In spite of it all, you could see the grounds were lovely. Our room had a gas fireplace which felt wonderful since it was 24 degrees outside with a bad wind! The restaurant on site was good for dinner and the included breakfast was very good.
Looking for something different...stay here.
Not your run of the mill motel. Very 'gardenesque'. Be aware outdoor lighting is very dim and can make it hard to find your room. Parking is just outside your door. Pet friendly rooms have a dog bed and bowl. Rooms have little courtyards about 8x10 with small chairs and a table. Dog friendly with a larger off leash area behind one section of the hotel. They have a bar with entertainment although I did not check it out. The place is a little run down and the fencing in the patio area is showing age/deterioration so don't leave kids or dogs alone as they can get thru the fence pretty easy.
An old friend
In the 1970's, long before Google, Yelp, and yes, Trip Advisor, travelers depended on AAA's Tour Book to steer them to the best hotels and restaurants. For many years running, The Village Green was the ONLY property in the entire state of Oregon to receive AAA's top rating, the five-diamond award. That's a little hard to imagine today. However, the owners are engaged in a years-long renovation of the property that hopefully will restore it to its former comfort level. For now it's a very good value and there are already many good reasons to stay here. The grounds are lovely, you can park at your door. Rooms are large but not fully renovated. My carpet and bed were new and fresh, but the bathroom was original and very ugly. The restaurant and lounge are beautiful, but for now the restaurant serves only dinner (which was very good). The free breakfast is strictly continental; so if you are not in to starch and carbs, you will need to go elsewhere.
Great place to stay, see, taste!
Wonderful quaint hotel, great rates, awesome location for sight seeing (covered bridges) and wine tasting in the south Willamette Valley. Good central location, without having to stay in the immediate Eugene area.
