A Great Place To Stay + some Pro Tips
This is an old hotel on the main street (3rd) which is the busy steet through town. It has been nicely re-done and is a good place to stay. Rooms 8-12 face the main street and would be noisier. All rooms come with ear plugs and a Roku TV. The other rooms face the back or, because the hotel is shaped like an "H" have no view other than a small space where you view the other rooms and some bamboo plants. That's OK, The rooms are small but comfortable with good beds and bedding. The suite we stayed in (room 5) had a bedroom and bathroom on each end and were very nice. But bring a pair of slippers if you stay in the winter - there is only heat in the shared kitchen and the floors were cold once you closed the barn-style doors from the shared area. This is a good place to stay right downtown.

Wished we stayed longer
I was a little nervous booking given some of the negative reviews, but was so glad we did. We went for room 2 and the layout was perfect - bedroom to the right of the entrance door, living room with super comfy sofa straight ahead, and large eat-in kitchen and bathroom off to the left. Decoration was modern, clean and tidy, and there were ample towels and everything in the kitchen to do a full meal should you need. The bed was very comfy, and the robes appreciated. The room is at the back of the house overlooking the parking spaces, which did mean in the morning that on the days the dumpsters were emptied you would hear the trucks coming in and the glasses smashing. But this is a property in the town, I defy anyone to find places in a town without noise. We did not find the train noise distracting, but there were the occasional trains going through nearby. All in all, these are normal noises for a town location and so I am not sure why people complain about them? We also liked the access to the property and room through codes, and not having to deal with reception or other people. This is a personal preference, but the smoothness of communication was exemplary, and the flexibility meant we could come and go when we wanted. Ideal. In any case, we stayed two nights and wished we stayed longer. McMinnville is a charming town with loads of eating options, and so pretty.

Should’ve driven home
I rented this place for an evening wedding in the area and felt like it’d be safer for me to find a room than to drive back to Portland. For the most part the place was super cute. I noticed a few pieces of garbage on the floor. The horror was jumping in the shower prior to the wedding to find about 5 long strands of hair behind the shower curtain. Maybe “horror” is dramatic but I specifically wanted to take a long hot bath, which is why I rented the place with the claw foot tub. Mind you, the room was not cheap for the area. I emailed the manager, but rushed off to my event. I came back to a bottle of maybe $20 wine and still a sketchy tub. Still no hot bath like I wanted. So I go to bed around 11 p.m. only to be awoken at midnight, not by a chariot turning into a pumpkin, but by the loud beeping of a street cleaner next to my window. Unable to fall asleep for hours, I contemplate driving home but I have watched one too many episodes of Forensic Files and figured the midnight street sweeper would be lurking around the corner. So at daylight, I gathered my belongings and drove home in my chariot.

Perfect location and great place!
We recently stayed in Room 14 and loved it. The bed was definitely the highlight of our stay. We have traveled world wide and it was the best bed we've ever slept in, while away from home. Everything was very clean and check in/check out was a breeze. Keep in mind, this is not a true hotel with front desk or daily room cleaning, but we knew this going in so it wasn't an issue. The location is right on 3rd with many great restaurants within walking distance. It's also very convenient to the nearby winery's in Dundee/Carlton/Gaston area, which was the reason for our trip. I would highly recommend Douglas on Third.

A really nice place to stay. Clean, well maintained and right in the heart of town.
Due to a long drive from our previous stay we rolled in about 7 pm. The check-in email instructions were clear and made getting into our room easy. The Douglas is all upstairs apartments above businesses. First impressions as we walked in were the cleanliness and well maintained aspects of the property. I wasn't expecting a suite but that was basically what it was. We were on the street side of the building so there was a bit of road noise until they rolled up the streets about 8 but nothing that disturbed our sleep. Everything seemed new and well kept. Although retired I'm kind of a techie so the super fast wifi, and Roku TV that allowed us to watch some personalized tv via hulu before bed was a nice touch. Everything seemed like someone put a lot of thought into it. The only criticisms we had was the light on the vent part of the microwave seemed burnt out and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to turn on the heater in the morning. A bigger issue for us was the mattress which was comfortable but seemed to have a plastic cover which made it extremely warm to try to sleep. I spent the night alternating between the comforter and a sheet to try manage my temp. I get the need but I would recommend a different solution. I overheard some other folks staying in the hotel voice similar complaints. Nice little kitchenette with fridge and sink. Small sitting room apart from the bedroom. A thoughtful touch we found when we checked in was bottles of local wine and snacks that were available instead of a minibar. Clearly marked to reflect you would be charged if you imbibed. Nice touch. A decent Thai restaurant right outside the front door (big portions) and a donut shop next to that. We ate breakfast down the street at the Morning Thunder Cafe. Lots of tie dye, Grateful Dead and VW posters. You get the picture. What sold me was a table with about 6 older ladies having what appeared to be a regular breakfast meetup. Food was wonderful but the portions were huge. Chicken fried steak was fresh made and nearly the size of the platter disguising the large portion of potatoes eggs. My wife ordered the bacon and eggs. Lots of potatoes, tasty eggs and 5 pieces of bacon. Oh yeah, DO NOT pass up the pancake hush puppies. Sadly we walked away without cleaning our plates. Highly recommended for a breakfast before exploring McMinnville. One last thing. Please put in some Tesla destination chargers in your parking lot. I think you're missing a bet. While we enjoyed our stay there a great deal, being able to plug in would have been real icing on the cake.
