Perfect location and great place!
We recently stayed in Room 14 and loved it. The bed was definitely the highlight of our stay. We have traveled world wide and it was the best bed we've ever slept in, while away from home. Everything was very clean and check in/check out was a breeze. Keep in mind, this is not a true hotel with front desk or daily room cleaning, but we knew this going in so it wasn't an issue. The location is right on 3rd with many great restaurants within walking distance. It's also very convenient to the nearby winery's in Dundee/Carlton/Gaston area, which was the reason for our trip. I would highly recommend Douglas on Third.
A really nice place to stay. Clean, well maintained and right in the heart of town.
Due to a long drive from our previous stay we rolled in about 7 pm. The check-in email instructions were clear and made getting into our room easy. The Douglas is all upstairs apartments above businesses. First impressions as we walked in were the cleanliness and well maintained aspects of the property. I wasn't expecting a suite but that was basically what it was. We were on the street side of the building so there was a bit of road noise until they rolled up the streets about 8 but nothing that disturbed our sleep. Everything seemed new and well kept. Although retired I'm kind of a techie so the super fast wifi, and Roku TV that allowed us to watch some personalized tv via hulu before bed was a nice touch. Everything seemed like someone put a lot of thought into it. The only criticisms we had was the light on the vent part of the microwave seemed burnt out and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to turn on the heater in the morning. A bigger issue for us was the mattress which was comfortable but seemed to have a plastic cover which made it extremely warm to try to sleep. I spent the night alternating between the comforter and a sheet to try manage my temp. I get the need but I would recommend a different solution. I overheard some other folks staying in the hotel voice similar complaints. Nice little kitchenette with fridge and sink. Small sitting room apart from the bedroom. A thoughtful touch we found when we checked in was bottles of local wine and snacks that were available instead of a minibar. Clearly marked to reflect you would be charged if you imbibed. Nice touch. A decent Thai restaurant right outside the front door (big portions) and a donut shop next to that. We ate breakfast down the street at the Morning Thunder Cafe. Lots of tie dye, Grateful Dead and VW posters. You get the picture. What sold me was a table with about 6 older ladies having what appeared to be a regular breakfast meetup. Food was wonderful but the portions were huge. Chicken fried steak was fresh made and nearly the size of the platter disguising the large portion of potatoes eggs. My wife ordered the bacon and eggs. Lots of potatoes, tasty eggs and 5 pieces of bacon. Oh yeah, DO NOT pass up the pancake hush puppies. Sadly we walked away without cleaning our plates. Highly recommended for a breakfast before exploring McMinnville. One last thing. Please put in some Tesla destination chargers in your parking lot. I think you're missing a bet. While we enjoyed our stay there a great deal, being able to plug in would have been real icing on the cake.
Clean, comfortable, a bit awkward that the bathroom vanity & sink were in the bedroom. Great location for walking around 3rd St. Bottle of wine upon arrival was a nice touch. Parking lot was a little tight but I appreciated the free parking.
Loved this place!
We loved our stay at Douglas on Third. Convenient location, lovely and unique accommodations and attentive staff. Spaces are not large but very well done in older building. Very clean upon arrival and easy to get anything you need from staff.
Excellent location in downtown McMinnville. (See photo of map) easy walking distance to all the shops and eateries. Has ample parking behind the inn but you will need to climb 2 flights of wooden stairs to access the rooms from the parking lot. There are also multiple stairs involved from the front- no elevator. All the rooms are on the second floor of this building. Our room had a little sitting area with a refrigerator microwave and a sink. A complimentary bottle of wine is provided. There are also more bottles of wine and snacks available for purchase. The shower and toilet are in the next little area which leads to the bedroom with barn doors to close each side for privacy. The sink with a lighted mirror is in the bedroom. Unfortunately there’s not a lot of space around the sink for toiletries. There is a smallish but adequate closet to hang clothes. It would have been nice to have had a magnifying mirror on a swinging arm next to the sink. Our first night the room heater wouldn’t work but the staff responded quickly and provided us a space heater which worked well. They were unable to fix the heater so offered us a much larger suite which was appreciated but we decided against moving due to all the hassle involved in repacking and unpacking. The second night was warmer so was not an issue. Our showers were brief in the morning but hot water was in short supply on the first day. No problem with hot water the next day. The shower stall is pretty small. Ladies wanting to shave their legs will need to be fairly acrobatic. The hostess is readily available by phone and was extremely helpful. This location is not only excellent for walking around the town but McMinnville is definitely where you want to stay to explore all the surrounding wineries and vineyards given all the shops and amenities it provides.
