Not Up To Our Standards
After having a lovely stay at a B&B the previous night, while taking a road trip in the general area, we were really disappointed with the Gray Cat Inn. As we arrived, we took a look around the house and found the backyard to be filled with a bunch of junk. I suggested to my companions that we "not judge a book by it's cover" so we continued to the front door. The owner invited us in and showed us both of the rooms we had reserved. The rooms themselves looked satisfactory, but the rest of the house was filled with every sort of clutter, and did not give the impression of a well run, orderly B&B. When asked about common areas, the owner pointed us to the aforementioned backyard, and to the front living room which gave the appearance that we were intruding in someones personal space. We all went outside and decided to pass. I can not say anything about how comfortable the beds were, or how great the breakfast might have been. I can only state that neither women felt comfortable staying there.
Best Bed and Breakfast - Super Breakfast!
We had the upstairs room with the most comfortable bed, it is a huge four poster. The room is spacious. It has a separate space with a mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot. The bathroom has lots of counter space, the shower is located outside the bathroom. There is a walk in closet and a sitting area. This home has history and they have decorated it with detail and tastefully done. Both Jeff and Celia are warm and friendly hosts, they were helpful getting us established giving us directions and suggestions. Their home is a short bike ride to the trail and just a short walk to 2 great restaurants (their suggestions!) Celia makes a fantastic breakfast that will keep you going untll dinner. She makes everything from scratch, you wake to the smell of baking. They are truly natural hosts that enjoy their guests. We really enjoyed our conversations both at breakfast and coming and going. I would highly recommend this accommodation.
Perfect spot for the bike trail
My husband and I recently stayed in The Gray Cat. Comfortable bed, delicious breakfast and clean surroundings. We were able to park our car off street and bike from the inn to the Covered Bridge Bike Path. The hosts Celia and Jeff are very familiar with the area and were a great help in suggesting a wonderful place to have dinner. Enjoyed the conversations at their dining table. Downstairs bedroom was comfortable and the ceiling fan and night breeze kept it comfortably cool. A very homey atmosphere and quite affordable.
Great place to stay
My wife, daughter and myself stayed here for 4 nights. We stayed in the upstairs room with a queen and a single. The beds were quite comfortable. There was a fridge to store your drinks as well as a microwave and a coffee maker. There was an ensuite with separate shower. Celia provided a great breakfast each day. The wi-fi was good as well. The only downside was the lack of air conditioning as it was unseasonably warm during our stay. However, with the windows left open during the evening, we were able to sleep quite well. The property is not far from the Downtown area of Cottage Grove. It is a great alternative to the chain hotels in the area.
Great location and friendly owners
We stopped here for one night on the way to the Portland area. We stayed in the downstairs bedroom which has a private bath right next door to the room. There is a hall outside the bedroom and bathroom doors and then a door between the hall and the kitchen so you have plenty of privacy. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean with everything we needed. Keep in mind this house was built in the 1920s so there were no easily accessible 3 prong outlets for recharging our computer or other devices. There was one power strip if you crawled under the head of the bed. Since we were only there for one night, it wasn't a problem for us. Also, I'm sure they would have been happy to find you another place in their home where you could plug in to charge. The breakfast was delicious and she was more than willing to cater to our special diets. Both owners sat with us after our breakfast was served and we enjoyed talking to them. We discussed the local news and were told more about their cats. :-)
