Hoffman Bridge was built in 1936. Spanning 90 feet across Crabtree Creek, the bridge was built primarily with hand tools. The upper timbers show adze marks where workers shaped them by hand. Instead of the usual open sides, this bridge has gothic windows. The portal design, originally rounded when the bridge was constructed, was enlarged and squared to allow passage of larger loads. The bridge has a low clearance of just 10 feet 10 inches. More

Shimanek Bridge is the only red covered bridge in Linn County. Built in 1966, this is Linn County's newest and longest covered span. Shimanek Bridge is an exception to the usual open-sided covered bridge design with rounded portals. Red paint, portal design and louvered windows are features similar to the original bridge, which was built in 1927. The bridge shares the white painted interior of other Linn County bridges. More

Gilkey Bridge spans Thomas Creek. Built in 1939 this bridge is a standing reminder of what was once the town of Gilkey, which served as a shipping point for farm products.  Gilkey Station was established when the railroad arrived in 1880 and was named in honor of Allen and William Gilkey. The 105-foot Hannah Bridge has spanned Thomas Creek since 1936 and was built on land from an original Donation Land Grant from 1846. The characteristic Linn County covered bridge design includes segmental portal arches, exposed beams at the gable ends and white board-and-batten cladding. The Howe truss is exposed through large side openings. More
