Beverly Beach State Park

Beverly Beach is popular for a reason! Like magic, a well-known walkway goes under the highway and emerges to the long expanse of sandy beach extending from Yaquina Head (you can see the lighthouse from here) to the headlands of Otter Rock. When the weather cooperates, kites color the air and whip in the wind. Bring a bucket and build a sand castle! Surfers often head to the north beach, while folks looking for fossils head south. Fat Bike Oregon’s Central Coast: Newport to Yachats

We pedaled down Highway 101, the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway, and climbed over the Newport Bridge, taking in a spectacular view from the top of the bridge. Finishing our warm-up on the road, we took a right turn into South Beach State Park and made our way to the sand along a paved path. Newport to Yachats

28Mi, Moderate
This unique route lets you explore a spectacular stretch of central Oregon Coast at a leisurely pace, spending most of your time on the beach, not the road. When you do hit the highway, it’s to cross a pair of graceful, picturesque bridges – or to find the brewpub at the end of this route, for a cold beverage that properly celebrates your adventure of putting in 28 miles on the bike. First, let’s talk logistics: Between the distance and the likelihood of a strong... More

Why You’ll Love the Oregon Coast Trail

The Oregon Coast Trail (OCT) is 382 miles of pieced-together paths, soft lanes of pine needles, wide-open beaches and sidewalks that run through buzzing shoreline towns. It’s yet to garner the attention of far more strenuous thru-hikes, such as the Appalachian or Pacific Crest trails. But the OCT offers something those other famous trails lack: the opportunity to explore a huge stretch of Oregon’s craggy coastline in segments, whether as a single day hike or a string of back-to-back excursions.
