Three Days in the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness

It’s safe to say we were here to explore, to savor each moment and to celebrate the freedom of the wilderness. We set off with our dog Riggins late in the afternoon toward Slide Lake. The trail turned south, traversing the eastern side of the ridge and offering views of aptly named Slide Mountain, with numerous avalanche paths leaving scars down its face. Canyon City

Starr Campground

Starr Sno-Park

This state sponsored Sno-Park provides parking near the west end of the Forest’s snowmobile trail system. Located on the south side of beautiful Canyon Mountain visitors will find miles of groomed snowmobile trails to enjoy.  The Grant County Snowballers snow mobile group provide miles of groomed snowmobile trails throughout the Malheur National Forest. Swick Old Growth Interpretive Site
