Sugar Creek Campground And Day Use Area

Sugar Creek Campground and Day Use Area are among the most highly developed recreational sites on the Ochoco National Forest.  The campground offers three moderately accessible campsites and all pathways are ADA compliant.  The setting of the facility is a young ponderosa pine forest, straddling a creek with easy access to a paved Forest Service Road. This trailhead is located where Fry Creek intersects Forest Service Road 2630, and it provides access to the eastern terminus of Keeton Trail (#815).   Although the two trails in this area (Keeton Trail #815 and Barnhouse Trail #813) do not make a complete loop, portions of Forest Service Road 2630 can be hiked to connect the trailheads. Fall Mountain Lookout

Fall Mountain Lookout Tower is situated about 20 miles from John Day, in central Oregon. It provides 360-degree views of the surrounding Strawberry Mountain Wildness, as well as the towns of Seneca and Mt. Vernon. The lookout offers access to a variety of recreational activities. In addition to sightseeing, visitors to the area enjoy hunting, hiking and viewing wildlife. The lookout is available to rent from May through October and can be reserved up to six months in advance.
