The most relaxing Mother’s Day I ever spent was enjoyed at Troon Vineyard in Southern Oregon’s Applegate Valley. Yes, I had all three of my active little boys in tow, but I also had my own mother and my grandmother, and while the children entertained themselves with an egg hunt through the vines, egg painting, and lawn games, we basked in the springtime sun, enjoyed brunch, and of course, sampled a flight of wine.
Ever since, I’ve recommended Mother’s Day at a winery. Luckily for Oregon moms — and just in time for Oregon Wine Month— several Upper Rogue Wine Trail and Applegate Wine Trail wineries have Mother’s Day offerings.
Cliff Creek Cellars: Family-friendly Cliff Creek on the Upper Rogue Wine Trail is offering a chocolate truffle pairing the Saturday and Sunday of Mother’s Day weekend. With views of Gold Hill and the fun of bocce ball and four-legged companions (some dogs have all the luck), it’s impossible not to relax at Cliff Creek. Can’t make it on Mother’s Day? They’re also participating in Roam the Rogue Memorial Day Weekend.
Eden Valley Orchards: Eden Valley is offering a food and wine pairing all day both May 10th and May 11th, as part of their celebration of both mothers and Oregon Wine Month. One of Medford’s favorite wedding venues, Eden Valley is set amid gardens, walkways, and the famed Voorhies Mansion. Plus, it’s close to town, so no excuses!
Celebrating Mother’s Day a little late? Buy Mom tickets to the Spring Uncorked event along the Applegate Wine Trail on May 18th. All 19 wineries in the Applegate will participate in this self-guided tour, each offering both an appetizer and a wine for tasting.
