Meet Ask Oregon Ambassador David Johnson
Editor’s Note: We recently unveiled Ask Oregon, a program that allows travelers to ask “Oregon Experts” about traveling throughout the state. We’d like to introduce you to our experts and will be featuring them periodically here on the Travel Oregon Blog. This week, we’d like to introduce you to our Fishing Ambassador, David Johnson!
Hi, I’m David Johnson, Oregon Fishing Ambassador
What’s your favorite thing about living in Oregon?
My favorite thing about Oregon? Variety. Coast, mountains, desert. Not many places with scenery that can match or so many things to do.
What’s your favorite way to enjoy Oregon?
My favorite thing to do in Oregon? FISHING!
What’s the one tip you always give to visitors?
The tip I give to visitors who fish with me? “bring full rain gear”
Describe your perfect Oregon Vacation…
It’s hard for me to discribe a perfect Oregon vacation since my life is a life of “living the dream” I fish as much as I can for fun and work, I live just outside of Tillamook minutes from hunting, hiking, clamming, mushroom picking and I can do these all the time.
I love to eat good food so I would love to spend more time doing that in Portland so I would throw that into a Oregon vacation.
During the first week of August we did a road trip to central and eastern Oregon and saw a ton of great landscapes and lots of animals, we fished and swam in the John Day River, visited Mt Hood and camped in the desert.

about author Rhiannon West Chamberlain
Rhiannon is a native Oregonian who grew up exploring the nooks and crannies of the Oregon Coast and daydreaming in Powell’s City of Books. She now lives in NE Portland with her husband and her new baby boy and looks forward to teaching him to love Oregon as much as she does. Rhiannon attended both the University of Oregon and Portland State University, where she studied Journalism and Mass Media. She claims to ‘bleed green’ and happily cheers for both the Ducks and the Vikings every chance she gets. In her free time, Rhiannon enjoys sipping Oregon Pinot, finding new restaurants, bargain hunting and trying new recipes – sometimes successfully. She has a child-like enthusiasm for trying new things and rediscovering old ones – such as skee-ball, mini golf, and big slides.
