If your idea of a weekend getaway is getting away with your bike, then the McKenzie Pass Scenic Bikeway is calling your name. Although the route is open all summer, for a few weeks each spring it’s only open to cyclists – and enjoying the car-free climb is an Oregon cycling tradition. You’ll pass through strikingly different forests on the east and west sides of the Cascades, hot springs, and a lava-rock moonscape at the top that’s unlike anything you’ll probably ever see on a bike ride again.
