Located at the base of the majestic Cascade Mountains in Central Oregon, Sisters is an iconic western-themed town, grounded in romance and surrounded by adventure. For couples that like their romantic getaways recreational by day, amorous by night and just plain fun all around, this little city is the perfect getaway for two. Here are four ways for you and your sweetie to enjoy your next trip to Sisters.
Stay at a romantic cabin at FivePine Lodge
Check into one of the new Serenity cabins at FivePine Lodge and Spa as your home base for the weekend. Designed specifically for romance, the rustic-chic lodgings are appointed with all the necessities for comfort and luxury, including a pedestal soaking tub, a shower with three kinds of showerheads, three-sided fireplace, plush robes, gorgeous Craftsman-style furniture and a back patio with two Adirondack chairs facing the Ponderosa pine forest.
FivePine’s campus is a compact slice of heaven, with restaurants, movies, pools and other amenities on site. Spend an afternoon at FivePine’s spa, Shibui, where the indulgent Rendezvous for Two package includes a hot stone massage and a glass of champagne for you both. Once you’re in a zen-like state, wander over to the Sisters Movie House, right near the Serenity cabins, to catch one of their new releases. Forget the popcorn — you can enjoy beer, wine and a movie house burger right at your seat.
After the movie, check out happy hour at Three Creeks Brewing, fashioned after an old-west livery stable and pouring their own terrific craft beers on the FivePine campus. Or simply kick back in a lounge chair at FivePine’s heated outdoor pool under the sunny summer sky.
Hike along the Metolius River
A river that appears magically from underground is about as romantic as it gets. The Metolius River forms from underground springs and emerges from a rocky, fern-covered hillside near Camp Sherman, just 20 minutes from Sisters. The headwaters of the Metolius are accessed by a paved quarter-mile trail that also boasts a killer view of Mount Jefferson.
The sparkling river, famous for its fly fishing, runs a short 29-mile course to converge with the other two rivers at Lake Billy Chinook. Try your hand at casting flies, or just check out the headwaters and then take a visit to the Camp Sherman Store, a charming log structure that has served as the community’s anchor for nearly a century. Grab some lunch to enjoy in the shade of the maple trees outside before adventuring down the river trail. Take a leisurely stroll or a longer hike; the trail travels upstream for several miles, through many campgrounds and along the banks of the bubbling, beautiful Metolius.
Mountain bike the Peterson Ridge Trail
Didn’t bring a mountain bike or a bike rack? No worries. FivePine will rent you a mountain bike for a nominal fee, and some of Central Oregon’s’ best biking trails can be accessed from right behind your cabin. The Peterson Ridge Trail System extends south of Sisters and includes 25 miles of single-track trail. The trails are relatively level and not too technical or overly difficult to navigate.
Ride sections called Twist and Shout and Hawk’s Flight wind through the Ponderosa pine and manzanita forest with striking scenery. At Eagle Rock, take in 360-degree views of the Cascade Range and landscape. Then return to your cabin to work out those muscles with a soak in the tub or a beverage on the patio.
Explore and dine in Sisters
A warm summer night was made for a romantic cruiser bike tour of charming Sisters. FivePine provides guests with complimentary cruiser bikes that are both comfortable and classy to ride. Pedal the short distance into town to explore. Hit Sisters’ iconic locales like the Sno Cap Drive In for homemade ice cream, the Stitchin’ Post for a glimpse of quilts from the famed Sisters Quilt Show, and the Sisters Saloon and Ranch Grill for a tall cold one.
Shop for cowboy boots at Dixie’s and a great new coffee mug at Canyon Creek Pottery. Los Agaves Mexican Grill has tasty tacos and guacamole to keep you fueled, or get your boots stomping with live music at The Belfry. Don’t leave town without visiting Paulina Springs Books to pick up a guidebook to more adventure in the area, because you’ll surely be back for more. Carry your treasures in the basket of your cruiser bike as you pedal back to FivePine and settle in another night’s sleep in your luxury cabin under the trees.
