7 Wonders of Oregon: The Oregon Coast

February 22, 2014 (Updated June 4, 2015)

Here in Oregon we don’t call the beach the beach; we call it the Coast. And our coast is lined with hiking trails, lighthouses and some of the best golf courses in the world. But of all the wonderful things about our Coast, the best is that all 363 miles are free and open for all of us. That’s why the Oregon Coast is one of the 7 Wonders of Oregon. Here are some spots you don’t want to miss when you see it for yourself:

Oswald West State Park: Just south of Cannon Beach, this park is home to amazing hikes through old-growth forests and Short Sands Beach, one of the Coast’s most popular surfing spots. Don’t miss Smugglers Cove, which, legend has it, still hides buried treasure.

Cape Kiwanda: Bring your kite, your hang glider, your surf board or just your camera to Cape Kiwanda in Pacific City. Part of the Three Capes Scenic Route, it’s worth the climb for the views from the top of the dune.

Lincoln City Skate Park: The same team that built the famed skate parks in Portland also made the impressive parks you’ll find on the central Oregon Coast.

Cape Blanco: On the Southern Oregon Coast, Cape Blanco holds bragging rights for being the westernmost point in the state. Stop for the view and to see Cape Blanco Lighthouse, or explore the trails that begin at Cape Blanco State Park.

Bandon Dunes: The town of Bandon is home to some of the best public golf courses in America as well as a working port, cranberry bogs and fishing.
