For a taste of the wide range of coastal scenery, try this loop that shows off Yaquina Bay, Coast Range foothills, the Siletz River Valley and Cape Foulweather. Start at Yaquina Head Lighthouse State Park and head through Newport to Toledo. Then follow the inland Siletz River Highway for some peaceful backroad scenery. Come back to Newport on Highway 101 on the Coast Bike Route, ascending a 400-foot climb of Cape Foulweather in a dedicated bike lane, enjoying legendary views to the ocean. Riding this route counter-clockwise avoids most headwinds and ends with the best ocean views. Total climbing is 1,950 feet.
