Tumalo State Park offers camping, yurt stays, tepee stays, hiking, fishing, fly fishing, swimming, picnicking, and swimming.
Tumalo State Park offers a quiet, quaint campground where your family can stay in authentic tepees, a cool yurt, or camp in your own tent or RV. The yurts are domed tents with structural support, a plywood floor, lockable wooden door, lights, heating, and beds with mattresses. In addition, the park offers riverside hiking trails, and a group picnic area.
Tumalo State Park offers winter recreation that is just up the road at Mt. Bachelor where skiers and snowboarders can experience some of the best powder in the state. If you are not fond of the lifts, there are miles of groomed Nordic trails and tons of snowy backcountry areas to explore.
At dawn or dusk try casting for rainbow trout as they sip at mayflies and caddis flies. Grab your raft and float with your feet dangling into the cool water during the heat of the summer. Take a hike and explore one of the river trails as they gently wind through canyons created by the untamed river. Watch deer forage for food just as the sun creeps below the rim of the canyon.
Vital stats: The park is open year-round. Day-use requires a small fee or an annual parks pass. The campground provides 22 full hookup sites, 65 tent sites (maximum site 44 feet); 2 tepees, 4 yurts; 2 group tent areas and a hiker/biker camp area. Showers are available.
: Climate in central and eastern Oregon varies greatly depending on elevation. The high elevations receive much more precipitation and colder temperatures. These regions are much more arid and see greater temperature extremes than western Oregon. Much of the precipitation comes from October to April, mostly in the form of snow in the higher elevations. Winter temperatures can drop well below zero degrees Fahrenheit. Snow remains in the high mountains into early summer. Late spring, summer and early autumn tend to bring clear, sunny days, with warm to hot temperatures at the low elevations and moderate temperatures at the higher elevations. Summer afternoon thunderstorms are not uncommon.
Location: Tumalo State Park is located off US 20, 5 miles nothwest of Bend in Central Oregon.
