Ainsworth State Park offers opportunities for camping, hiking, picnicking, viewing scenery, viewing wildlife, and attending interpretive programs.

Hiking is definitely something you’ll want to do while camping at Ainsworth State Park. By leaving the park on Nesmith Point trail, you’ll end up with a splendid view of St. Peter’s Dome, a majestic basalt monolith rising 2,000 feet above the mighty Columbia River.

Back at the campground, you’ll find 45 peaceful full-service campsites canopied in a laid-back, tree-filled setting. There are also four walk-in tent sites for a more primitive camping experience. This is a classic campground … the smell of a campfire is your constant companion. Flush toilets, showers, a camp host, firewood and an amphitheater with interpretive programs are all here. Top it off with a roaring creek at the east end of the park, and you have all the makings for a great camping trip.

Vital Stats: Open March – November. The campground provides 45 full hookup sites(maximum site 60 feet) and 4 walk-in tent sites (accommodates primitive tent camping with nearby parking area).

: Climate in this region changes drastically with elevation. The area receives a high amount of precipitation. Much of the precipitation comes from October to April in the form of rain at the low elevations and as heavy snow in the higher elevations. Winter temperatures are normally cool at the lower elevations and cold at the higher elevations. Although snow is possible in the lowest elevations, it is infrequent and does not stay on the ground for long. Late spring, summer and early autumn bring the best chance for clear, sunny days and bring moderate temperatures.

Location: Ainsworth State Park is located along the historic Columbia River Highway, 17 miles east of Troutdale at exit 35 off I-84.
