The Arts Central Station is housed in Bend’s historic train depot. The 1911 structure was moved stone by stone to this site in 2000 to remove it from the path of new highway construction. The Arts Central Station is a prime example of a marriage of historic preservation and the arts. The building’s move and restoration were a joint project of government, private development and nonprofit organizations. Owned by William Smith Properties and leased by Arts Central, the depot is home to art classes in most media for all ages and levels of experience. The depot is sited along the Deschutes River in the Old Mill District and is near an amphitheatre, shops, restaurants and parks.
