Jasper State Recreation Site offers opportunities for fishing, picnicking, group picnicking, hiking, bird-watching and wildlife watching.

The park has plenty of room for games, picnics, fishing. The park features a hiking trail, playground and group picnic shelters. The reservable group shelters come complete with covered cooking facilities.

If summer is just too busy for you, consider dropping by this park in spring. Songbirds abound along the river and among the wooded patches.

Vital stats: This park requires a day-use permit which can be purchased for a small fee. Annual pass holders get in free, as do people camping in a state park that day. There are four group shelters (one holds up to 150, the other three hold 100 people each). The group shelters are reservable and a fee is charged.

: Climate in this region changes with elevation. The area receives a high amount of precipitation. Much of the precipitation comes from October to April in the form of rain at the low elevations and as wet heavy snow in the higher elevations. Winter temperatures are normally cool at the lower elevations and cold at the higher elevations. Although snow is possible in the lowest elevations, it is infrequent and does not stay on the ground for long. Late spring, summer and early autumn bring the best chance for clear, sunny days and bring moderate temperatures.

Location: Jasper State Recreation Site is located 12 miles southeast of Eugene. Take Jasper Park Rd. north off Highway 58.
