Brace yourself for one of the most exciting three-day events you’ll ever experience, at the Port of Brookings-Harbor!

This festival is the largest ocean fishing derby on the West Coast where hundreds of fishermen flock to Brookings every Labor Day weekend for their try at a “trophy Chinook Salmon”.

Fishermen and their families come from all over the state of Oregon and some from other states as far away as New York and as close as Idaho. As many as 450 fishermen board their boats in hopes of winning the $6,000 dollar prize for the biggest salmon and a chance to win other cash awards of $10,000 plus several thousand dollars worth of prizes such as rods and reels, crab pots, and numerous other fishing gear.

You’ll be captivated by the many vendors selling an array of fishing gear, clothing, leather bags, knives and a vast number of treasures from the Southern Oregon Coast. Beer garden and food vendors are sure to keep you well nourished and most participants and their families look forward to the Sunday (last day of the Derby) Salmon dinner (free to those who hold fishing tickets) that has become notorious and frequently feeds well over 1000 people with the most succulent bar-b-q salmon, corn on the cob, potato salad, dinner rolls and watermelon.

The music is sure to please and watching each fisherman “weigh in their fish” is a true delight!

Visit the Slam’n Salmon Ocean Derby Website for more information as the event gets closer. The Website also has a Gallery of Photo’s showing some of the Salmon caught at the 2013 Derby.
