Steens Mountain
Just about anything you find on TravelOregon.com can be added to your own personal Trip Planner. Find out how.
With an elevation of 9,700 feet, Steens Mountain is one of the highest peaks in Oregon. Remote and pristine, it rises at a gentle slope from the little town of Frenchglen, reaches its peak, and then drops off dramatically to the Alvord Desert-a vertical mile below. You can stay in the Historic Frenchglen Hotel (est. 1916) or camp at a BLM campground on the mountain. Steens Mountain Packers/Lake Creek Base Camp offer wonderful rustic tent cabins set in a beautiful aspen grove, delicious meals, guided pack trips and more.
