Held at the peak of spring migration, this festival is perfect for the birder, cultural visitor, and outdoor enthusiast alike.

The event kicks off with a Thursday night art walk through downtown La Grande, or drop in to the Irish Session hosted by Traditional-Live! for reels, arias, polkas and walltzes. End Thursday night with a live performance by Blues Hall of Fame inductee Jimmy Lloyd Rae at Ten Depot Street.

On Friday, enjoy shopping, visit history at the Union County Museum or the museums at Hot Lake Springs, ride the Grande Tour Scenic Bikeway, or hike on Mount Emily Recreation Area. At dusk, head into downtown La Grande for the perennial favorite twilight Ag and Timber Parade, featuring big rigs and ag equipment rolling down the street with lights aglow. Drop by the Bird Festival kick-off event with live music, refreshments, and a lecture by Gary Ivey, "Sandhill Cranes of the Pacific Flyway."

Saturday starts early for bird watchers, with guided tours at Ladd Marsh starting at 4:45AM. Plein air artists will be at the Marsh creating amazing works of art on Saturday from 9AM to noon. Events and activities for Junior Birders, birds of prey presentation, and stationed viewing all day long.

Saturday is also the first day of the La Grande Farmers' Market. Don't miss this first taste of summer. Live music and kids activities, too. Also, La Grande Main Street is holding the second annual Discover Downtown Stroll, a non-competitive discovery trail through downtown, with fun and prizes along the way.

For more active kids, drop in to the Safe Kids Day and try your hand (or hips) at belly dancing, work out with X-fit, and enjoy a guided bicycle tour.

Saturday evening closed with the Centenial Celebration at the Art Center At the Old Library. Originally built as a Carnegie library, the building is now a central hub for the local arts community.

And all weekend long, the city of Union will be displaying upcycled bird feeders and sculptures, made using recycled materials.
