Enthusiasts from all over the state drive their tricked-out cars and motorcycles to Gaston every year for the Wapato Showdown. Friday night kicks off the event with the Gaston Good Ol' Days Parade followed by a steak dinner and some great family fun (5-7:30 pm). Saturday starts off with the all-you-can-eat Fireman's Pancake Breakfast (6:30-10:30 am) and registration (8 am-noon). More family fun is on tap along with food and drink booths and raffle giveaways throughout the day. Also known as “Corn Toss” and Bean Bag Toss,” among other regional names, Cornhole is similar to horseshoes, except wooden boxes (cornhole platforms) and corn bags are used.<\/p>\r\n

The Championships will take place at Pacific University, where players will compete for the titles of single and doubles Oregon state cornhole champions, and will be invited to compete in the World Championships of Cornhole, July 7-11, 2015, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Participation in the state championship tournament is open to players of all ages. <\/strong><\/p>\r\n

New this year: Competitions for juniors, seniors and women.<\/strong> Participants for the state championships tournament must be Oregon residents. Cost to compete is $30, plus $5 processing fee. Admission includes a one-year membership to the American Cornhole Organization (a $25 value).<\/p>\r\n

It's a good old fashioned southern crawfish boil! Montinore has invited Ethan Powell and Tobias Hogan, owners of Eat: An Oyster Bar<\/a> and The Parish in Portland to come out and show guests how it’s done. They will be boiling up pots of all-you-can-eat, fresh Gulf crawfish, shrimp and the usual accompaniments, as well as a big batch of their homemade Jambalaya, all paired with Montinore Estate's 2014 white wine releases.

$60 for all-you-can-eat fresh crawfish, tokens for oysters, Jambalaya and bread pudding and wine pairings<\/p>\r\n
