It takes you on a discovery of the North Fork Trail, which later became the Mapleton Hill Road. As you walk the trail, you'll learn how it developed from a path cut by animals to a road that helped link Eugene and Florence.

The road's colorful history includes a covered bridge that collapsed during a snowstorm, and Model T's crashing down steep embankments while trying to negotiate sharp switchbacks.

The history of the original road makes it eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Today's trail covers a portion of the old trail, as well as part of the original road.

There is a vault toilet at the trailhead.","post_name":"mapleton-hill-trail","post_type":"resource","slug":"recreation","name":"Recreation","lat":"44.0781","lng":"-123.914","distance":"4.4","permalink":"\/see-do\/recreation\/hiking\/mapleton-hill-trail\/","terms":"a Hiking<\/a>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t (within Recreation<\/a>)"},{"ID":"6475","post_title":"Sweet Creek Trails","post_content":"The Sweet Creek trail system takes hikers on a scenic journey along Sweet Creek, where water cascades down numerous waterfalls, offering a variety of opportunities for nature photographers, artists, and others interested in enjoying a unique outdoor experience.

Sweet Creek got its name from the Sweet Family who settled in this area in 1876. Here they logged timber, fished, and farmed the land. In 1884 Maria Sweet died and was buried on the homestead. Three years later, Zara Sweet, the patriarch of the family died, and was buried next to his wife. The surviving family members lived on Sweet Creek for many years after.

Trails can be accessed at the Homestead Trailhead and the Wagon Road Trailhead as well as the Sweet Creek Trailhead. Restrooms are provided at these trailheads.
